JANUARY – Kindness, Understanding, & Acceptance
Dear Parents,
During our January dance classes, we are performing various Wingman for Dance activities that help us get to share our personal strengths and weaknesses in dance as well as understand the important character traits that help to make a strong dance community. We hope the dancers are willing to share the interesting activities they have taken part in this month.
How you can help: Everyone wants to feel accepted and appreciated for who they genuinely are as human beings. By taking the time to discuss that EVERYONE has strengths and weaknesses, we create understanding and acceptance.
Do you know what your dancer views as her strengths and weaknesses? Do you know how her/his peers see her/him as an individual at dance? What character compliments did he/she receive? What kind of a conversation can you start with your dancer around acceptance, strengths and weaknesses?
Great questions start great conversations!
Don’t hesitate to contact me or one of the other instructors if you want more information about the Wingman program or have any questions or concerns.
Thank you,
Miss Katie & DIDC
Wingman for Dance is a program from Dylan’s Wings of Change, a foundation dedicated to the memory of Dylan Hockley, one of the first grade victims of the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012. Dylan was six years old and had autism, and could be his best when those around him would be his Wingman. You can find out more at www.wingmanleague.org.
